PRESS RELEASE from the Nelson Police Department
On Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 8:26 a.m., staff from a local hostel called the Nelson Police Department to report a male that was refusing to leave their building.
When a police officer arrived, he was confronted by an agitated 24 year-old male who appeared to be under the influence of a drug. The male would not leave when asked to do so and became confrontational with the police. When the police officer attempted to arrest the accused for assault by trespass, the partially clothed male allegedly resisted and assaulted the police officer.
When a reserve constable attended to assist, he was also allegedly assaulted. A Nelson police officer and reserve constable were treated and released from Kootenay Lake Hospital with minor injuries.
Riley Devin McNally who recently moved to Nelson was charged with assaulting a police officer and a reserve constable. He was also charged with resisting arrest, carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon, causing a disturbance and mischief under $5,000 dollars.
The accused was remanded in custody during a bail hearing and is scheduled to attend Nelson Provincial Court on Tuesday, August 16, 2011.
